Polyethylene glycol 6000

PROPERTIES

Polyethylene glycol 6000 appears as white to cremish flakes. It is soluble in water and most polar organic solvents. Incomapatible with penicillin, bicitracine, iodine, potassium iodide, sorbitol, tannic acid, bismuth salts. Glycols are also not suitable with polyethylene, backlite and celluloids.

APPLICATIONS

RUBBER INDUSTRY

In rubber industry , PEG-6000 can be used as a mould release agent . A solution of PEG-6000 of 3-20 % concentration can be coated or sprayed into the hot mould cavities , thus enabling the solvent to evaporate, the solution is either dried by applying heat or allowed to dry evaporation of solvent.

ELECTROPLATING

PEG-6000 is used for copper and nickel electroplating of steel and iron parts.

Other technical applications:

-       tyre mounting agent,
-        plasticiser in synthetic resin,
-        enhancer of thermal stability in adhesive preparations,
-        additional component of galvanisation bath,
-        viscose modifier,
-        precipitant,
-        thickener for inks,
-        wood processing,
-        binder/plasticizer for ceramics,
-        intermediate for copolymers and PEG esters,
-        metalworking lubricants.
