PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

Dimethylacetamide (DMAc) is a colorless (to yellow), water miscible, oily, polar, hygroscopic liquid with a faint, specific amine-like odor. DMAc is miscible with most other organic solvents including alcohols, ethers, esters ketones, chlorinated and aromatic compounds, although it is poorly soluble in saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons. It has a good thermal and chemical stability.

APPLICATIONS

PHARMA

DMAc can be a reactor solvent or plasticizer for pharmaceutical intermediates.

It is used in the manufacturing process of antibiotics like cephalosporins (such as cefadroxil, cefalexin and cefradine).

Besides, DMAc has the application as a solvent in the production of x-ray contrast media.

PLASTIC INDUSTRY

This is a reaction medium for the production of plasticizers.

COSMETICS

It is a reactor solvent or a plasticizer for cosmetic intermediates.

ACRYLIC FIBRES

DMAc is applied as a solvent in wet spinning processes for the production of acrylic fibres.

ELASTHANE FIBRES

It is used in the production of polyurethane-based elasthane fibres. It is the solvent of choice given its evaporation speed, whether it is used in wet or dry spinning processes.

VARIOUS POLYMERS

It is a good solvent for polyimide resins, for the production of dialyser membranes, based on polysulfones. A mixture of DMAc and lithium chloride is a useful solvent for cellulose fibres in several applications.

PESTICIDES

Dimethylacetamide can be used as a solvent or co-catalyst in the production of some pesticides.

LABORATORY

Dimethylacetamide as an excellent catalyst in organic synthesis. It accelerates various reactions such as cyclization, halogenation, cynidation, alkylation and dehydrogenation and increase the yield of main products.

Other uses:
