PROPERTIES
1(2H)-Isoquinolinone is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound which occurs as a yellow solid. It is the nitrogen analogue of isocoumarin.
APPLICATIONS
MEDICINE
The unique structure of the isoquinolone skeleton exhibits biomimetic characteristics. Substituted isocarbostyrils are useful as pharmaceutical agents in view of their antidepressant, antiulcer, antiinflammatory, analgesic, hypolipidemic, and analeptic activities. There are also agents that act on the central nervous system, inhibitors of lipoxygenase and poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase, inhibitors of cholesterol biosynthesis, and agents for the treatment of stomach tumors and diseases of human brain cells.
DISEASE TREATMENTS
Among drugs related to isocarbostyril there are narciclasine, initiator caspases, ruprechstyril, methyl asterrate, secalonic acid. The isoquinol-1-one structural fragment can be found in medical products on the pharmaceutical market such as: Draquinolol, Tilisolol, and Palonosetron.
There are some diseases for which isocarbostyril is relevant, e.g. Neoplasms (Cancer), Carcinoma (Carcinomatosis), Lymphoid Leukemia.
The isocarbostyril derivatives have a strong β-blocking effect with a swift blood pressure-reducing activity. They are expected to be used as therapeutic preparations useful for treatment of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases such as angina pectris, arrhythmia, and also glaucoma.
INHIBITORS OF PLAVIVIRUS REPLICATION
Isoquinolone derivatives are suitable to prevent or treat infections with viruses belonging to the family of the Flaviviridae and more preferably infections with Hepatitis C virus (HCV).
